Job Description
We are seeking a Summer 2024 Tax Intern in Purchase, NY.
Our Internship Program will provide students the opportunity to gain corporate experience, learn about all aspects of Corporate Tax, and prepare students with the kind of experience needed to have a rewarding career at Sompo.
The Tax Department is responsible for federal income taxes, state and local taxes and premium taxes for Sompo International.
These responsibilities entail the preparation of the income tax provision in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and regulatory reporting (US Statutory) standards.
Additionally, preparation and filing of state, local and premium taxes based on the respective jurisdiction’s tax rates.
Activities, Learning and Development
Throughout the program, you will have the opportunity to hear from executive leaders, participate in structured, engaging leadership learnings, participate in networking events and activities with peers, members of our Executive team and outside brokerage firms, and be part of a project to present to their manager and mentor.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Tax Department Summer Intern will assist in performing the following functions:
Assistance with preparation of state and local tax filings.
Assistance with preparation of premium tax filings.
Validation of data inputs to income tax provisions.
Updating quarterly reports through the Company’s report writing software (Business Objects).
Rolling over files in preparation for the current reporting period.
Prepare journal entries as necessary.
Assist the team with filing of notices received from tax authorities.
Prepare check requests for accounts payable processing.
Assist with ad-hoc requests as needed.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program studying Taxation, Accounting, Finance, Economics and Business.
Minimum GPA requirement of 3.

Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Attention to detail and accuracy required.
Strong analytical and quantitative and interpersonal skills
Local to the desired Purchase, NY office location or able to secure housing and transportation in the area
Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Preferred Qualifications
Aspirations to earn CPA certification.
Prior tax internship experience.
Salary Range: ___$22/hr_______Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
