Looking for a reliable, physically active individual to work with with my adorable 36-year old autistic son in a comfortable, 3-bedroom, duplex apartment in Harrison (Westchester County, NY).
The live-in caregiver will have his/her own spacious, independent, bedroom on the upper floor of the duplex, with its own private bathroom and large walk-in closet.
Caregiver would be expected to sleep at the house 5 nights a week.
(I always have my son with me in the city every weekend).
Some days, the actual hours involved would be from 3:15 pm until 9:15 am the next morning and some days from 9:00 PM until 10:45 PM PLUS 1 hour the next morning until he leaves for day program (overnight sleep does not count as billable time).
Position involves a lot of free time during the week for caregiver to also pursue other personal interests.
My son attends a day program Monday to Thursday until 3:15 pm.
Two afternoons a week, I have other part-time people working with him, which means that the caregiver would be totally free on those days from 9:15 am until about 9:00 PM when she/he will need to be back at the house.
Previous familiarity with autistic individuals is useful.
Ability to follow specific instructions regarding the interaction with my son is extremely important, as is also ongoing, open, communication with me (father).
Responsibilities include driving him to nearby community classes, parks, and other (mostly) outdoors outings, in addition to engaging in constructive interaction with him while at home.
The position would normally involve a minimum guaranteed of 35 billable hours per week- some additional hours with another family nearby might be available.
